We discussed why I was "cooking" in front of the students and decided that when we read, we don't have room for every piece of information to stick in our brains (the strainer) therefore, we need to keep all the important information (the spaghetti) and get ride of all the unimportant information (the water).Īfter we were finished with that experiment, we read a piece from our text, A Way to Help Planet Earth and discussed which information was the most important for us to keep in our brains to help us remember the passage. Did you know you can compare the act of reading to draining spaghetti and water into a strainer? It's true.we found that out today! To introduce determining importance, right in front of all the students, I poured a pot full of spaghetti and water through a strainer and into another pot.
